At Shiromineji Temple, the 81st temple of the Shikoku Pilgrimage located in Sakaide City, Kagawa Prefecture, the grounds are colored with beautiful three-hued autumn leaves when fall arrives. Nestled quietly in the mountains of Goshikidai, it attracts few crowds even during the autumn foliage season, making its calm, quiet atmosphere a major draw. The vibrant Japanese maple leaves spread out to envelop the stone-paved approach, creating a beauty that will make you stop in your tracks. In particular, if you walk toward the deeper parts of the temple grounds, there is a serene area where you will encounter almost no one, which is the most recommended spot. The view from historic structures such as the Main Hall and Bell Tower is also magnificent, and the collaboration between national Important Cultural Properties and autumn leaves looks like a scene from a picture book. The usual best viewing period is from mid-November to early December. Within the temple grounds, there are hidden features you can enjoy like a treasure hunt game, such as Maneki-neko (beckoning cats) and Karasu Tengu hidden atop stone lanterns, as well as hidden stone monuments of the 12 zodiac animals; searching for them together with children allows adults to return to childhood and enjoy themselves as well. In addition, a food truck fair is held during the autumn foliage season, where you can savor delicious gourmet food while viewing the leaves.
