About this event

The Kotohiki Hachimangu Grand Festival is held over three days, ending on the third Sunday of October each year. Friday is called Yoimatsuri (eve festival), where you can see chosa (drum floats) parading through various districts. On Saturday and Sunday afternoons, the miyairi (shrine entry) takes place, and chosa are dedicated. The taikodai (drum float) dedication has a tradition dating from the Edo period and is operated in accordance with detailed rules even today. During the festival period, food stalls line up near the Kotohiki Hachimangu Shinkoden, bustling with many people. Typically, fireworks are launched on Saturday night, and the collaboration with illuminated 'chosa' is one of the highlights. This festival is a traditional festival handed down in Kan'onji City and serves as an important annual event for the local people.
