Honda Hachimangu Shrine Grand Autumn Festival
Japanese name:誉田八幡宮 秋の大祭
📅 Sat, Oct 10, 2026 - Sun, Oct 11, 2026
About this event
This is the Grand Autumn Festival held at Honda Hachimangu Shrine, the tutelary shrine of Hiketa. The ritual dedication of "Nage-yakko," which is rare across Japan, is the main highlight: throwing a spear measuring approximately 5 meters in length and weighing approximately 22 kilograms high into the air while parading along the road with valiant shouts is truly impressive. Lion dance dedications are also performed, allowing visitors to experience the atmosphere of a community-rooted traditional festival. The valiant appearance of the Nage-yakko seen during the mikoshi togyo (procession of portable shrines) is well worth seeing.
