About this event

The 'Pilgrimage in Remembrance of Daishi' is a walking pilgrimage that covers the entire route of the 88 Sacred Sites of Shodoshima, including historic ancient trails. Its aim is to experience the island pilgrimage paths where Kobo Daishi (Kukai) is said to have trained and pass them down to the next generation. Hosted by the Shodoshima Bodai Doshinkai, this pilgrimage takes place annually from April 16 to 22. Participants can enrich their hearts and reflect on themselves by walking along with the spirit of Daishi ('Dogyo Ninin'). For those who find the full 7-day course difficult, participating for 2 or 3 days is also possible. Participants are encouraged to wear traditional Henro pilgrim attire. Reception begins at 8:00 AM on April 16 at the Shodoshima Reijo Sohon-in Temple in Nishihonmachi, Tonosho Town. This pilgrimage offers a precious experience of visiting the ancient 88 sacred sites while experiencing the rich nature and warm hospitality of Shodoshima.
