About this event
Designated as an Ehime Prefectural Intangible Folk Cultural Property, the traditional event "Otomo-uma no Hashirikomi" is held as a ritual festival of Kamo Shrine in Kikuma-cho, Imabari City. Young boys act as riders on horses outfitted with ceremonial saddles and decorations, dashing along the approximately 300-meter shrine approach all at once with brave shouts of "Hoiya, Hoiya," creating a thrilling spectacle. The festival consists of the "Kaomise Parade" that tours the town and the main "Hashirikomi." The Kaomise Parade departs Kamo Shrine on the morning of Saturday, October 17 and returns in the afternoon. Then, from the early morning through the morning of Sunday, October 18, the long-awaited "Otomo-uma no Hashirikomi" takes place. This traditional festival is a valuable opportunity to experience culture rooted in the local community.
