Saijo Festival is a traditional autumn festival in Saijo City that has continued since the Edo period, serving as a Shinto ritual to give thanks to the deities for bountiful harvests. It is held as the collective name for the annual festivals of four shrines: Isono Shrine, Kamo Shrine, Ishioka Shrine, and Iizumi Shrine. Around 150 floats (danjiri, mikoshi, taikodai) belonging to each ujiko town in the city are dedicated, which is said to be the largest number in Japan. During the festival period, elaborately crafted floats line up in procession, and the sounds of drums, gongs, and festival chants echo throughout the town. Described as "gorgeous and dazzling," this local ritual fascinates many tourists every year. The Kamo Shrine festival is known as a festival centered around children's taikodai (drum floats). At night, floats illuminated by hundreds of paper lanterns operate, offering a magical scenery different from daytime.
