About this event

The traditional performing art "Kane Odori", designated as an Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Ehime Prefecture and selected among the "50 Best Festivals of Ehime", will be held on the grounds of Onishi Shrine in Shingu-cho, Shikokuchuo City. This dance is a Nembutsu dance that began around the Genroku era to console the spirit of Onishi Bitchu-no-kami Mototake, who governed the region benevolently during the Tensho era. Accompanied by a unique triple meter played on gongs and drums, a total of 22 dancers—including those wearing long-nosed masks and stick-twirlers—perform a vigorous and magnificent dedication dance for about 2 hours with intense, dynamic movements. Spanning 300 years of history, it deeply preserves the local traditions and culture.
