25th Uchiko-za Bunraku Performance

'Uchiko The Bunraku 2026', published on the official Uchiko Town website, provides detailed information about the 25th Uchiko-za Bunraku Performance. This performance is a Bunraku event held at alternate venues in town during the preservation and repair work period of Uchiko-za. In fiscal year 2026, it will be held across a total of 3 venues: a junior high school located in the birthplace of Nobel Prize-winning author Kenzaburo Oe, and a temple that was well received last year. The performances will be held over Saturday, October 17 and Sunday, October 18. On October 17, two performances will be held at the Ose Junior High School Music Dome starting at 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM, and on October 18, one performance will be held at Gokokusan 'Koshoji' starting at 11:00 AM. Scheduled programs include 'Sekidera Komachi - from Hana Kurabe Shiki no Kotobuki' and 'Koi Nyobo Somewake Tazuna - Shigenoi Kowakare no Dan', along with Bunraku Sango explanations, demonstrations, and Bunraku talks. Prominent performers such as Living National Treasure Kazuo Yoshida, Todaiyu Toyotake, and Enza Tsuruzawa are also listed. Admission is 5,000 yen per seat, with seats determined by lottery via return postcard. The application acceptance period runs from Wednesday, July 1 to Friday, July 31, 2026 (must arrive by this date).
