About this event

The Nankoku City Cultural Festival marks its 50th anniversary this year as the culmination of cultural activities breathing with the creativity and passion of local residents. For this milestone edition, in addition to the annual exhibitions and presentations, posthumous works of "washi paper dolls" created by the late Toshimi Nishii will be specially exhibited. These works, infused with delicate craftsmanship and deep emotion, remind visitors of the transmission of culture and the power of art. Everyone is invited to join this celebration that connects people and the local community through cultural power toward the future. The Cultural Activities Exhibition section displays the fruits of daily creative pursuits by citizens, including ikebana flower arrangement, ceramics, photography, senryu poetry, and calligraphy. The Stage Performance section features diverse performances ranging from community-rooted traditional arts such as Japanese dance and shigin poetry recitation to Arirang dance and art ballet. As a special exhibition project, delicate and emotionally rich washi paper dolls by the late Toshimi Nishii will be displayed.
