About this event

Held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Shimanto Canoe and Camp Village Kawarakko (24 Tadenokawa, Shimanto City), the '3rd Shimanto River Thanksgiving Festival' is a day to fully enjoy the blessings of the Shimanto River. The daytime session runs from 11:00 to 16:00 and features a wide variety of activities, starting with sweetfish (ayu) catching for children aged 5 to junior high school students (participation fee 1,000 yen, capacity 100 participants, advance application available), canoeing/SUP experiences, sightseeing boat rides, cast net fishing, catch-and-eat experiences, treasure hunting, goby scooping, and eel trap-making experiences. Performances by the Nakamura Junior & Senior High School Calligraphy Club, dances by the Shimanto City Odoriko Troupe, candy tossing, and the Shimanto Mayor's Cup Sweetfish Monaka Eating Contest are also scheduled to liven up the venue. The evening session runs from 17:00 to 20:00, with a demonstration of the traditional 'Hifuri-ryo' (fire-waving fishing) method starting at 19:00. Fire-waving fishing experiences and a grand raffle are also planned, making it an event where visitors can savor the charms of the Shimanto River to the fullest. Some experiences require a fee and advance registration, with applications scheduled to begin in early September.
