About this event

A traditional festival in Nakatosa Town, Kochi Prefecture, with roots dating back to the Sengoku period. Held on the 14th and 15th days of the 8th lunar month, it is counted among the Three Major Festivals of Tosa. The festival's highlight is the valiant "Omikoku-san," where giant torches measuring 6 meters in height and weighing approximately 1 ton are paraded through the night to the shrine. Additionally, on September 24, the "Bonito Country Fireworks Festival" will feature approximately 1,800 fireworks lighting up the autumn night sky. On September 25, a divine procession (Goshinko) and celebratory rice cakes (Iwai Mochi) are also scheduled, providing an opportunity to experience firsthand the culture and traditions rooted in the community.
