Located in a basin in west-central Kochi Prefecture, Sakawa Town is known as one of the preeminent sake brewing towns in Kochi Prefecture. Centered around Sakagura no Michi (Sake Brewery Road), the Uemachi district still preserves historic, atmospheric old townscapes with sake breweries, white-walled structures, and traditional residences that evoke the Edo and Meiji periods. Sakawa Sake Brewery Road Theater is a one-night-only magical light and sound event where illustrations and videos are projected onto those white walls, traditional residences, and historic structures. By projecting and displaying various artworks on sake breweries, white-walled buildings, and traditional houses in Sakawa Town's Uemachi—a Historic Scenic Preservation District—this one-day-only event operates as a magical theater of light and music for both adults and children to enjoy. Although the event duration is 3 and a half hours, it has become a seasonal autumn tradition drawing around 4,000 visitors every year.
