About this event
Held on Sunday, September 6, 2026, the 9th Northernmost Point of Japan Wakkanai Peace Marathon originated from Wakkanai City's declaration as a 'Child-Rearing Peace City.' It is organized to console the souls of victims, reflect on the value of peace, wish for lasting world peace, and promote citizen fitness and sports. The full marathon follows a scenic course starting in front of the Monument of the Northernmost Point of Japan and finishing at Wakkanai Port North Breakwater Dome Park. In addition, 2 km, 5 km, and 8 km categories are available for a wide range of age groups. In particular, elementary, junior high, and high school students who reside in Wakkanai City or attend schools in the city can participate in select categories for free. A general information desk opens the day before the event, and baggage storage and changing areas are available on race day. Full marathon participants benefit from free shuttle buses to the starting point at Cape Soya. Finishers receive an original T-shirt, a hot spring admission ticket, and a certificate commemorating reaching the northernmost point, while full marathon finishers also receive a finisher medal. Race timing uses Runner's Chips, and all finishers receive a digital web finisher certificate.
