JMSDF Icebreaker Shirase Public Opening in Wakkanai Port Suehiro Wharf

On Saturday, September 26, and Sunday, September 27, 2026, a public opening of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) icebreaker "Shirase" will be held at Suehiro Wharf in Wakkanai Port, Wakkanai City, Hokkaido. This is a valuable opportunity to board and tour the icebreaker "Shirase," which supports Antarctic expeditions. No advance registration is required, and admission is free. Touring hours are from 9:00 to 15:00 on the 26th (last entry 14:00) and from 9:00 to 16:00 on the 27th (last entry 15:00). Baggage inspections will be conducted onboard, and children of elementary school age or younger must be accompanied by a guardian. Persons who have consumed alcohol or those bringing pets are not permitted to board. The use of parasols and rain umbrellas on the ship may be restricted depending on congestion. Caution is required as it is slippery inside the vessel. For safety reasons, visitors are advised to avoid sandals, high heels, and skirts, and wearing clothes that allow easy movement is recommended.
