'Tsunoyama Ancient Kagura' is a traditional performing art dedicated at autumn annual festivals of various shrines in the town to pray for bountiful harvests, good health, and peace. Said to possess a history of over 1,000 years, it is designated as a National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property as one of the 'Tosa Kagura.' It takes about 8 hours to perform all 17 dances. In this festival that divines the year's catch and harvest, participants comfort and give thanks to the enshrined deities while praying for parishioner health, abundant crops, and rich fishing catches. The highlight is the heroic clash between the shrine boat (miyabune) and the portable shrine (mikoshi); it is believed that if the miyabune carried by fishermen strikes the mikoshi, it portends a rich catch, while if the mikoshi carried by farmers escapes, it signifies a bountiful harvest. It has a history of over 400 years and is designated as a Kochi Prefecture Intangible Folk Cultural Property.
