Hakata Old Town Light-up Walk 2026: Sennen Koya

About this event

This light-up event is an autumn tradition featuring special nighttime openings of temples, shrines, and gardens scattered throughout the Hakata Old Town. The grounds and gardens of historic temples and shrines, which are usually inaccessible at night, are enveloped in fantastical light, allowing visitors to enjoy a solemn atmosphere distinct from daytime. The theme for 2026 is 'STARS - A Constellation of Light Traversing Eternal Time to Illuminate the Future -', illuminating 15 venues including Shotenji Temple, Tochoji Temple, and Myorakuji Temple. There are also venues that can be enjoyed free of charge, such as Kushida Shrine and Hakata Sennen-no-Mon Gate, with events like live jazz performances and Japanese sake tastings planned at Kushida Shrine. While expanding venues and improving production, it is a unique event in Fukuoka City that welcomes around 100,000 visitors annually.
