Japanese name:第74回 白秋祭水上パレード
📅 Sun, Nov 1, 2026 - Tue, Nov 3, 2026
About this event
This is a traditional event held to commemorate the great achievements of the great poet Hakushu Kitahara, of whom Yanagawa is proud, introduce "Water Town Yanagawa" (Suigo Yanagawa)—the cradle of Hakushu's poetry—to the entire nation, and promote tourism in Yanagawa. Originating on the 10th anniversary of Master Hakushu's passing, this water parade marks its 74th edition in 2026. Held annually over three days on November 1, 2, and 3 around November 2, the anniversary of Master Hakushu Kitahara's death, it takes place against the backdrop of Water Town Yanagawa. During the water parade, participants can enjoy Yanagawa's unique, fantastical night while traveling by boat along a course of approximately 4 kilometers. Stages are set up at various points along the course, showcasing local performing arts, taiko drum performances, choral singing, brass bands, and more. Lanterns float on the water surface, wrapping the entire town of Yanagawa in a warm atmosphere. The warm welcome and hospitality provided by local citizens is another highlight. At the end of the parade, fireworks are launched, bringing the magical water parade to a spectacular close. This is a special event where you can feel the affection for Master Hakushu and experience the beautiful scenery unique to Water Town Yanagawa.
