44th Ono Yamajiro Daimonji Festival
Japanese name:第44回おおの山城大文字まつり
📅 Sat, Sep 26, 2026 - Sun, Sep 27, 2026
About this event
A major autumn civic festival held at Daimonji Park, overlooking Mount Shiōji where Japan's oldest mountain fortress "Ono Castle"—the origin of Onojo City's name—rests. During the festival, the Chinese character "Dai" (Big) is illuminated on Mount Shiōji, and on both festival nights, the venue is enveloped in a magical scene created by "Yume-akari" lanterns painted with children's dreams. Packed with highlights across the two days, the program includes the "Ono Joe & Madoka-chan" show and stage performances by various organizations. Commemorative towel designs have been finalized, and volunteer staff interested in community contribution and event operations were recruited. While applications for participants in the fire-lighting ceremony have closed, the festival senryu poetry contest (for junior high school students residing in Onojo City) was also held.
