Chikuzen Ashiya Dago-bina and Straw Horse Festival
Japanese name:筑前芦屋だごびーなとわら馬まつり
📅 Tue, Sep 1, 2026 - Sun, Sep 27, 2026
About this event
A festival held to pass down "Hassaku no Sekku," a traditional event passed down in Ashiya Town, Fukuoka Prefecture for approximately 300 years, to future generations. For this custom, a "straw horse" is made for the first-born boy in a family, and a "dango doll (dago-bina)" is made for the first-born girl. These are displayed in tatami rooms and distributed to neighbors on the day of the festival, with the entire community praying for the healthy growth of the children. The festival features exhibitions of these traditional straw horses and dango dolls, with a program where they are given as gifts to visitors on the final day. During the event period, exhibitions and related events can be enjoyed across multiple venues, including the Ashiya Town Central Public Hall, Ashiyagama no Sato, Ashiya History Museum, and Kokumin Shukusha Marine Terrace Ashiya. It is an event where visitors can experience the warm atmosphere of wishing for children's growth while connecting with local culture and traditions.
