About this event
Held in Toho Village, Fukuoka Prefecture, the "Koishiwara Ware Autumn Folk Pottery Village Festival" is the region's largest pottery fair where kilns of Koishiwara ware and Takatori ware, boasting about 400 years of tradition, open their kilns all at once. During the festival period, visitors have the chance to purchase pottery at each kiln at prices more affordable than usual, and many pottery enthusiasts from all over the country visit in search of newly fired, brand-new pottery pieces. At the Koishiwara Ware Traditional Industry Center, visitors can actually engage their hands and experience the charm of Koishiwara ware through hands-on activities such as painting free cups (fee required) and painting "tobi-kanna" chattering patterns on 5-sun (approx. 15cm) plates (fee required). Also, a no-lose "Tsubo Gacha" (pottery capsule toy) will be held during the period, offering the excitement of winning wonderful pottery. As traffic congestion is anticipated on National Route 211 around the venue, visitors are urged to arrive with plenty of time to spare and cooperate with staggered visits to the village. Maps useful for touring the kilns and information on temporary shuttle buses are also provided.
