About this event

Located in Soeda Town, Tagawa District, Fukuoka Prefecture, Mount Hiko has long gathered faith as a training ground for yamabushi (mountain ascetics) as one of Japan's Three Great Sacred Mountains of Shugendo. In the central area of the sacred mountain consisting of three peaks, there are shrine buildings designated as National Important Cultural Properties, where the beautiful autumn foliage attracts many mountain climbers in autumn. The peak foliage viewing for 2026 is expected to be from October 21 to November 20, allowing visitors to enjoy the vibrant autumn colors that adorn the sacred mountain. Access is about 40 minutes by car from the Haki IC on the Oita Expressway, or about 15 minutes by municipal bus (to the Kane-no-Torii bus stop) from Hikosan Station on the Hitahikosan Line BRT. During the foliage season, many people visit to appreciate the scenery woven together by magnificent nature and historic architecture.
