About this event
In the past, Emi Port prospered as a collection and distribution center for the Mine District area, serving as a gathering place for people involved in loading and unloading cargo. This Shinto ritual is believed to have been where those people received prayers and blessings. Also known as "Oki Shinji" or "Emi no Juninichi," it is conducted as the autumn grand festival of Emi Hachimangu Shrine. Currently held annually on the Sunday closest to September 12, a sacred procession (goshinko) takes place from Nishinomiya Hachimangu Shrine into the grounds of Emi Hachimangu Shrine. Held concurrently, the Emi Oki Traditional Culture Festival envelops the entire Emi area in a festive atmosphere.
