Set in the Higashiyamate, Minamiyamate, and Oura districts—the former foreign settlement of Nagasaki City—the "Nagasaki Settlement Festival" is held to reflect on the people who lived in the foreign settlement at the end of the Edo period, Nagasaki's historical role in contributing greatly to the dawn of modern Japan, and local pride. Featuring venues such as Glover Garden, it is an exotic festival that makes the most of the historical and cultural heritage remaining in the settlement. Its greatest feature is that the people who are living in the present while making history are the main protagonists, allowing anyone to casually participate. A diverse variety of events will be held, with dates, times, and venues varying depending on the content.
