About this event

Held in Kamiamakusa City, Kumamoto Prefecture, the "Jomon Oceanic People 'Lapita' Festival in Amakusa" is an event where you can experience ancient romance and the culture of the Jomon seafaring people, set at the Kojima Park Campsite surrounded by beautiful sea and rich nature. The event theme is "Passing on the culture of the Jomon oceanic people to the future in Kamiamakusa, where some of the world's largest megaliths sleep." It focuses on the world's largest ancient megalithic structures called "dolmens" resting in Kamiamakusa and the ancient oceanic people called "Lapita" who possessed advanced navigation skills and spread across the world during the Jomon period. The festival is packed with programs to experience the lifestyle and spirituality of the Jomon seafaring people, including keynote lectures, the Ancient Pan-Pacific Oceanic People Night Festival, Ancient Oceanic People "Lapita" Boat Building & Boarding Experience, Ancient Amakusa Sacred Site Tour with a Guide from Himeishi Shrine to the Yatake Megalithic Site, and Amakusa earthenware / Lapita pottery making experiences. This event serves as an important first step toward bringing back gratitude for water and forests, connections between people, and prayer culture to modern times, and preserving precious moments on video for the future. Leaving everyday life behind, it will create special summer memories where you can recharge your whole body with ancient romance and the energy of grand nature.
