About this event

Traditional Culture Festival in Nagasu is a two-day event held in Nagasu Town, Kumamoto Prefecture, where visitors can see, learn about, and experience Kumamoto's traditional culture. Implemented as an adopted project of the Agency for Cultural Affairs' FY2026 Traditional Culture Parent-Child Class Program (Regional Expansion Type), it offers a valuable opportunity for parents and children to participate together. The venue features 16 types of traditional culture workshop classes, including Shodai ware, Yamaga lanterns, rush grass crafts, painting Kinoha-saru monkeys, and making bamboo flutes for Seigenji Kagura. Its major appeal is the hands-on experience with Kumamoto's traditional culture, which is rarely encountered in daily life. Participation is completely free. This event is held concurrently on the same day with the 39th Goldfish and Carp Village Festival and the 2nd Goldfish Flying Contest!, allowing visitors to enjoy the lively atmosphere. Advance registration is required to participate in the workshops, and applications are accepted only through Nagasu Town's official LINE account. The application period runs from Monday, September 14, 2026, at 9:00 AM to Monday, October 5, 2026; early application is recommended as registration will close once capacity is reached. Each group may participate in up to 2 classes per day, and participation is restricted to pairs of parent and child or child and adult. Children only or adults only cannot participate. In addition, the Kumamoto Monodukuri Fair in Nagasu will be held simultaneously at the venue with no reservation required and same-day participation welcome.
