About this event

The 53rd Nagomi Town Kofun Festival will be held in Nagomi Town, Kumamoto Prefecture. The venues are the entire Eda Funayama Kofun Park area and Higo Minka Village. The event is packed with activities for adults and children alike, including live performances, a feast of flames, a torchlight procession, and a fireworks display. This festival, celebrated as one of Kumamoto Prefecture's three major fire festivals, was previously held in August, but starting last year, the schedule was changed to the fourth Saturday and Sunday of September. In particular, during the main event, the "Torchlight Procession" held on the 27th, participants wear ancient costumes and carry torches while walking about 1 kilometer from Edagawa Mizube Park to the Higo Minka Village Outdoor Stage. Why not join in to make summer memories with family, friends, or school and workplace colleagues? There are two types of costumes: a large size featuring a flame motif, and a small size featuring four motifs drawn on the silver-inlaid iron sword excavated from Eda Funayama Kofun. They are poncho-style (kantoui) garments that are easy to put on and take off. Participation is free. In addition, a "Magatama Making" event will be held during the day, limited to the first 30 people, who can wear the magatama beads they crafted and join the torchlight procession.
