About this event
A special guided tour exploring the history, culture, food, and healing of Yunomae Town will be held. At Eiryuji Temple, enjoy a mind-calming meditation experience in the quiet main hall and savour body-friendly Buddhist vegetarian cuisine (shojin ryori). In addition, at the Shimomura Women's Association, try your hand at making "Genkizuke" pickles using local ingredients and barley koji. Furthermore, special viewings will open the interiors of Shimosato Odaishido, Fumonji Kannondo, and Kamisato no Machi Kannon—which are usually closed to the public—providing an opportunity to view precious Buddhist statues, miniature shrines (zushi), and Sumeru altars (shumidan) up close under the guidance of a local guide. While taking in the stone-built Shimomachi Bridge and idyllic pastoral scenery, participants can experience the history and culinary culture passed down in Yunomae Town. The tour starts at the Shimomura Women's Association, moves through the Genkizuke pickling workshop, special viewing spots, and meditation/shojin ryori experiences, and concludes back at the Shimomura Women's Association. As participants will walk approximately 6.8 km, wearing comfortable walking shoes and clothing is recommended.
