About this event
In the Hitoyoshi Kuma region of Kumamoto Prefecture, 'Kumaron Fair 2026' will be held from Sunday, September 20 to Tuesday, October 20, 2026. Aligned with the season for Kuma chestnuts, this autumn gourmet touring event features 27 local shops offering sweets and baked goods made with Kuma-grown chestnuts known as 'Kuma-guri.' Kuma chestnuts have an established reputation for exceptional flavor among domestic Japanese chestnuts and are even used by major confectionery manufacturers and high-end mont blanc specialty shops; the 27 local shops will present items prepared with their own unique touches. The wide variety is dazzling, ranging from Western pastries such as mont blanc, tarts, and cream puffs, to Japanese sweets like dorayaki, castella, and monaka, as well as bread rolls, danishes, soft serve ice cream, and parfaits. A stamp rally will also be held this year: purchasing eligible products for 500 yen or more earns one stamp per shop, and collecting 3 or more stamps allows entry into a lottery where 60 winners will receive gift certificates. During the same period, the Autumn 33 Kannon Pilgrimage Gokaicho and the Aoi Aso Shrine Grand Autumn Festival will also be held, allowing visitors to fully enjoy autumn in Hitoyoshi Kuma while savoring seasonal Kuma chestnuts.
