About this event

Boasting a history of over 1,300 years, the "Shirashige Tawara Shrine Doburoku Festival" is a unique autumn festival where precious unrefined sake (doburoku), brewed on the shrine grounds by the only shrine in Kyushu with a brewing license, is served to worshipers. At Shirashige Tawara Shrine, an ancient shrine said to have been founded in Wado 3 (710 AD), sacred doburoku made in the on-site brewery has been dedicated to the deities for over 1,300 years to pray for bountiful harvests, good health, and longevity. This precious sacred sake is served to worshipers only during the once-a-year annual festival period. The festival's highlight is undoubtedly the generous serving of doburoku poured for visitors. Its mellow aroma and rustic, rich flavor are a special blessing that can only be experienced in this region. Traditional Shinto rituals and kagura dance dedications are also performed on the shrine grounds, enveloping the venue in a warm enthusiasm where solemn prayers and worshipers' smiles intersect.
