About this event

Grasslands, which once occupied 20% of Japan's land area during the Meiji period, have now decreased to just 1%. In order to protect and pass on these precious grasslands to the next generation, Kokonoe Town will host the '15th National Grassland Summit and Symposium in Kokonoe'. As a forum where peers involved in grassland conservation across the nation gather to discuss grasslands, this event aims to communicate the significance and appeal of grasslands, deepen discussions on the current status and challenges of conservation and succession activities nationwide, and foster collaboration to maintain grasslands. On the day, lectures and on-site study tours will be conducted with the goal of connecting grasslands to the future by sharing knowledge and techniques for controlled burning (noyaki) to maintain grasslands, as well as preserving plants and living creatures inhabiting the grasslands. While promoting the wonder of Kokonoe Town's grasslands to the entire nation, the symposium will reflect on the controlled burning culture and the blessings of grasslands to be passed on to future generations. Anyone who loves grasslands or has an interest in nature is warmly welcome.
