About this event

Ryusei Kishida was a painter who made a lasting mark on modern Japanese art history. In a short life of just 38 years, without being bound by the trends of his time, he constantly pursued the question of "What is beauty?" and continuously changed his painting style. Through approximately 180 diverse works—including oil paintings, sketches, prints, his later Japanese-style paintings (Nihonga), and book designs showing his connection to the magazine "Shirakaba"—this exhibition traces the trajectory of Ryusei Kishida's original artistic career. The still lifes that vividly reflect his artistic perspective and the series of works depicting his beloved daughter, Reiko, are must-sees. In addition, Kishida's own words are introduced, allowing visitors to delve deeply into the world of beauty that this solitary painter deepened throughout his life.
