About this event

Set in the beautiful sea of Sumie, the "Open Water Swimming Sumie Cup 2026" will be held with the aim of promoting and popularizing open water swimming (OWS), while enhancing participants' health and mutual exchange. Held for the second time following last year, this competition is also positioned as a rehearsal event for the Japan Hinata Miyazaki National Sports Games & Para Sports Games to be held in 2027 (Reiwa 9). This year, as a new initiative, a junior division (500m category) has been established, allowing elementary school students (grades 4 to 6) to participate. Selected as one of the "100 Best Beaches in Japan," the calm and easily swimmable waters of Sumie eagerly await many participants. Takeshi Matsuda, a top athlete who has competed globally, will also help liven up the competition. Various categories including 5km, 1km, and 500m are prepared, with participant capacity limits set.
