About this event

The Autumn Grand Festival "Reitaisai" of Kushima Shrine is a festival to report the year's harvest and the safety of the parishioner community after offering prayers for a bountiful harvest in spring. It is considered the ritual most closely connected to the enshrined deity throughout the year. As a token of gratitude, miko maiden dances, lion dances (shishimai), and Japanese taiko drums are dedicated, praying for the health, prosperity, and continuous growth of the shrine parishioners. At the autumn festival, after solemnly conducting the rituals, the autumn harvest offered to the deities is consumed during "naorai." Naorai is a custom based on the ancient concept that participants gather together to partake of the same food as the deities, thereby interacting between "gods and humans" and receiving divine energy (blessings).
