Japanese name:第40回 西都古墳まつり
📅 Sat, Nov 7, 2026 - Sun, Nov 8, 2026
About this event
The Saito Kofun Festival is a memorable event celebrating a major milestone this year with its 40th edition. This will be a special year drawing nationwide attention, as it has also been selected as a satellite venue for the 'Japan Heritage Festival.' In the 'Torch Procession,' one of the festival's main events, participants dress in ancient costumes and walk the approximately 4 km 'Kiki no Michi' trail holding torches in hand. Departing from Tsuma Shrine and heading toward Goryobomae Square along paths associated with mythology, this procession of about 600 participants creates a magical sight. At the end of the procession awaits the 'Festival of Flame,' themed around ancient mythology, where the love story of the heavenly grandchild Ninigi-no-Mikoto and Konohanasakuya-hime is revived along with the flames. It will be a special night unique to the Saito Kofun Festival, allowing visitors to experience the history, mythology, and culture of Saito.
