About this event

"Hietsuki-bushi," a famous folk song passed down in Shiiba Village where the Heike legend remains, expresses the simple and warm-hearted humanity of Shiiba, as well as the atmosphere of mountain villages and the Okuhyuga region. This competition is a master tournament held for the purpose of preserving and spreading this folk song, selecting the number one singer in Japan. For the 2026 tournament, commemorative booklets will be specially produced, and archive newspaper prints of past tournaments are scheduled to be displayed at the venue. Participation fees are 3,000 yen for adults and 1,000 yen for junior high school students and younger. Access to the venue is about 1 hour and 30 minutes by car from JR Hyugashi Station, or about 50 km (1 hour) via National Routes 218 and 265 from the Kyushu-Chuo Expressway Yamato Tsjunkyo IC.
