About this event
As the 8th installment of the 'Forests and Trees of the Kyushu Mountains' series held at the Kyushu University Miyazaki Forest, this lecture course features a nature walk exploring the secluded interior of Shiiba Village and Mount Tsunodake (Mount Eshiro) in autumn. This event is a rare opportunity to experience the rich nature of the Miyazaki Forest, a representative area of remote central Kyushu mountainous terrain encompassing the headwaters of the Hitotsuse River flowing into the Hyuga Sea. Participants will learn about the climate, geology, and vegetation of the research forest while receiving an overview and history of Kyushu University Miyazaki Forest. Participants will be divided into two teams according to their interests: one course aiming for the summit of Mount Tsunodake (Mount Eshiro) and another heading toward Sentsuki Valley while listening to forest lectures. The plan includes a 1-night stay with 2 meals, as well as a boxed bento lunch for the second day, with lodging in shared rooms at the forest research station office. Private rooms can be arranged separately upon request. The event will proceed in light rain, but the program may change in severe weather. It is a program that allows you to fully appreciate the appeal of the forests and trees of the Kyushu Mountains as autumn deepens.
