About this event
Held in Takachiho Town, Miyazaki Prefecture, the "Mythological Takachiho Night Kagura Festival" showcases Takachiho's night kagura dances, designated as a National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property. Representative dances selected from the 33 sacred kagura repertoires passed down in local settlements are dedicated through the night at the Kagura Hall of Takachiho Shrine. Scenes from Japanese mythology, featuring deities such as Tajikarao-no-Mikoto and Ame-no-Uzume-no-Mikoto, are performed in a mystical atmosphere, drawing many tourists from across the nation. Serving as an autumn tradition of Takachiho held in late November every year, all 33 Takachiho Night Kagura dances are performed over a two-day span. This festival offers thanks for a blessed autumn harvest and prays for fertility in the coming year.
