The 28th Akune Western Painting Exhibition

Held in Akune City, Kagoshima Prefecture, "The 28th Akune Western Painting Exhibition" is an event that solicits and exhibits Western-style paintings (including watercolors). In the General and High School Division, each person can submit up to 3 pieces; the submission fee is 2,000 yen for 1 piece for general entrants, 1,500 yen per additional piece, and free for high school students. Various awards are prepared, including the Akune Western Painting Grand Prize (supplementary prize of 200,000 yen), the Mayor of Akune Award, and the Akune City Council Chairperson Award. In the Junior Division, the theme is open and entry is free of charge. Artwork delivery takes place at Kaze Terrace Akune (Akune Civic Exchange Center) or a designated art supply store (Takagi Gaso). The delivery period for the General and High School Division is from Friday, July 24 to Sunday, July 26, 2026 (Reiwa 8), and delivery to the designated art supply store is until Saturday, July 25. The delivery period for the Junior Division is from Wednesday, July 1 to Wednesday, July 22, 2026 (Reiwa 8). Judging will take place on Monday, August 3, 2026 (Reiwa 8), and the announcement of selected works is scheduled within 2 weeks from the judging date.
