About this event
Held every year on the first Sunday of November along National Route 3, the "Satsumasendai Hanya Festival" is an enchanting festival featuring a grand historical procession and powerful dancing. Following a samurai warrior procession, brass band, mikoshi portable shrine parade, and street performances, approximately 5,000 dancers in traditional dance troupes from both inside and outside the city will parade through the streets. They will showcase the energetic "Hanya Dance" to the rhythms of "Seicho Sendai Hanya-bushi," "Sendai Yoitoko," and "Kagoshima Ohara-bushi." This festival is a signature event representing the North Satsuma area, where visitors can experience the charm of local performing arts and traditional celebrations.
