Japanese name:第21回天孫降臨霧島祭
📅 Sun, Aug 23, 2026
About this event
Held in the land of Kirishima where the myth of Tenson Korin (the descent of the sun goddess's grandson) lives on, the 21st Tenson Korin Kirishima Festival is a traditional performing arts celebration composed of two festivals: the Kirishima Highlands Taiko Festival and the South Kyushu Kagura Festival. Traditional arts such as taiko drumming and kagura sacred dance, carefully handed down in Kirishima and nationwide, gather in one place to showcase their charm to the fullest. The solemn, fantastical world woven by kagura and the powerful, heroic resonance of taiko drums will stir the hearts of spectators and convey the depth of Japanese traditional culture. Visitors can enjoy a special day colored by Kirishima's rich nature, history, and culture. This festival features kagura performances by Shonai Kagura Kunugi Kaguraza (Oita Prefecture) and the Kirishima Kagura Promotion Association (Kirishima City), along with taiko drum performances by Wadaiko Hiryu (Osaka Prefecture), Yufu Hasama Taiko (Oita Prefecture), Yamagawa Tsumabeni Youth Taiko (Ibusuki City), Kirishima Ikuukai (Kirishima City), and the Tenson Korin Kirishima Kumen Taiko Preservation Society (Kirishima City).
