Held under the theme of 'New Developments of Silk Island Woven by Grand Nature and Silk Culture' in Amami City, Kagoshima Prefecture, 'The 27th Silk Summit 2026 in Amami' is an event aimed at disseminating and passing down sericulture techniques, expanding the uses of silkworms and silk, and developing related industries. People involved in production activities such as sericulture, silk reeling, dyeing, and weaving from silk-producing regions across the nation, as well as those engaged in community activities at museums, archives, and silk workshops, gather together for active exchanges of opinions, information, and technology. This is a valuable opportunity to explore new possibilities for sericulture, silk utilization, traditional crafts, and regional resource utilization in the Amami region. On the first day, a wide range of lectures will be held on topics such as the environment and evolving silk, applications in medicine and cosmetics, new challenges of the Amami Oshima Tsumugi production area connecting traditional techniques with the community, and the utilization of silk and mulberry as local resources. Visitors can also enjoy a hands-on experience corner for silk-based cosmetics and exhibits introducing sericulture initiatives from various regions. At the networking reception, participants can deepen their friendships while experiencing unique Amami culture such as an Oshima Tsumugi fashion show, traditional Amami 'Nanko-asobi', 'Hachigatsu Odori' dance, and 'Rokucho'. On the second day, a field tour visiting the Adan Tatsugo Factory, Oshima Tsumugi Village, Amami Park, and more is scheduled, offering a firsthand look at Amami's silk industry.
