About this event

The 'Kamo Taiko Dance,' held in Aira City, Kagoshima Prefecture, is a traditional festival where preservation societies from four districts—Kawahigashi, Kita, and Shimokutoku in Kamo, and Haruhana in Aira—perform taiko drumming dances. An opening ceremony will be held from 9:00 AM on Tsuji Street, followed by performances of Itcho Taiko from the Kawahigashi district and Michi Taiko (procession drumming) from the four districts. After Michi Taiko concludes, Niwa Odori (courtyard dance) will be dedicated at Kamo Hachiman Shrine. At this event, you can experience up close the powerful resonance of taiko drums and the dynamic energy of community-rooted dances. On the day, Prefectural Routes 40 and 463 will be closed to traffic for the Michi Taiko performances on Tsuji Street. When viewing, please take sufficient precautions against heat stroke. In case of rain, it will be postponed to the following day.
