About this event
The "Higashikushira Gion Summer Festival," held in Higashikushira Town, Kagoshima Prefecture, is a festival that can be enjoyed throughout the day, from Shinto rituals and entertainment performances to an exciting grand lottery. The Shinto ritual portion takes place at Oyamazumi Shrine, followed by the Goshinko procession parading through the Toyosaka district shopping street. From evening, the entertainment performance portion begins at the Higashikushira Town Athletic Field, offering a diverse program including Japanese taiko drumming, erhu, children's events, Bon Odori dancing, hula dancing, and singing. The finale features a grand lottery with luxurious prizes to liven up the venue. Food trucks and stalls will also be set up, allowing visitors to enjoy gourmet food. Due to extreme heat, the daytime mikoshi procession (Toyosaka shopping street parade) has been canceled, but the entertainment performance portion is scheduled to take place as usual. Town residents unite to bring excitement to the festival and pray for good health and protection against illnesses.
