Town Planning Citizens' Lecture / Forest & River Month Project: Environmental Forum "Siberian Salamander"

Japanese name:まちづくり町民講座・森と川の月間関連事業 環境フォーラム「キタサンショウウオ」

📅 Sat, Aug 29, 2026

📍 Shibecha, Hokkaido

About this event

This environmental forum focuses on the "Siberian Salamander" (Kita Sanshouo), a designated Natural Monument inhabiting Shibecha Town. It is a rare opportunity to observe living Siberian salamanders and learn about the ecology of Japan's Siberian salamanders from a global perspective, as well as conservation activities carried out in various regions. Individuals raised at AOAO SAPPORO scheduled for future release will also be exhibited. The forum deepens understanding of the current situation and conservation of the Siberian salamander through lectures including "To Preserve the Siberian Salamander for the Future" by Mr. Shigeharu Terui (Representative of the NPO Promotion Network for Environmental Grasping - PEG), "2026 Siberian Salamander Artificial Breeding Trial Report" by Ms. Mizuki Oshita (organism handler at AOAO SAPPORO), and "Breath of the Ice Age Remaining in Shibecha Town" by Mr. Kosei Motonaga (Curator at Shibecha Town Museum). The purpose of this forum is to raise interest in precious local wildlife and foster awareness of natural environmental conservation.
