About this event
The "EPSILON CUP 2026 OSUMI-KIMOTSUKI Rocket Division Kagoshima Tournament" is a competition where junior high school, high school, and technical college student teams compete in launch altitude and flight duration of model rockets carrying an egg. Held for the first time in Kimotsuki Town, Kagoshima Prefecture, participants aim for national and world tournaments. "Uchu Koshien" (Space Koshien) aims to develop human resources capable of tackling frontier challenges on a global scale through hands-on education. In the competition, teams launch model rockets they designed and built themselves, competing on whether they can safely carry and recover a quail egg, and how closely they can match target altitudes and flight durations. Rocket flight encompasses the fundamentals of aerospace engineering, such as aerodynamics, center of gravity, stability, vehicle weight, recovery devices, launch angles, and wind effects, allowing participants to learn extensively through trial and error. The winning team of the tournament will be recommended to the national tournament, opening the way to higher-level competitions. On the day of the event, visitors can observe the model rocket launches and see the children's challenging spirits and serious expressions.
