About this event
This festival honors Tomari Jochiku, a monk from Anbo, Yakushima Town. Held annually on the first Saturday of November, beautiful bamboo lanterns are lit throughout the area surrounding the Tomari Jochiku Mausoleum. Tomari Jochiku dedicated himself to improving the lives of the island's residents and is also known as the "Sage of Yakushima." This festival is a traditional event that commemorates his achievements and brings a beautiful spectacle to the community.
