About this event
A "Honen Festival" held to pray for abundant harvests and express gratitude for the harvest, this traditional performing art boasts over 440 years of tradition and is designated as a National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property. In addition to comforting the islanders, it is dedicated to Jinushi Shrine with prayers and gratitude for peace across the entire island and bumper crops (rainmaking). The traditional dances, consisting of two groups—the mainland-style Ichiban-gumi and Ryukyu-style Niban-gumi—are well worth seeing. Guided tours with commentary will also be conducted, and food and drink vendors will be set up around the venue.
