About this event
Designated as a National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property, the Yoron Full Moon Dance is held annually on the 15th day of the 3rd, 8th, and 10th lunar months to console the islanders, pray for the peace of the entire island, and offer prayers and gratitude for bountiful harvests (rainmaking). It consists of two groups performing Ryukyu-style dances and one group performing Yamato kyogen-style dances, dedicated alternately. At the end, people gathered at the venue dance together to bring the performance to a close. In 2026, it will be held on Monday, November 23, corresponding to the 15th day of the 10th lunar month. The venues are Kotohira Shrine and Jinushi Shrine.
