Japanese name:石垣市民憲章 講演会

About this event
At the lecture held as a pre-event commemorating the 50th anniversary of the enactment of the Ishigaki Citizens' Charter, Baima Yangjin, a singer from Tibet, will be invited as a guest speaker to talk on the theme "Together with the Community: Thoughts on Living in Japan and Tibet." Baima Yangjin is known for her sensitivity nurtured by Tibet's rich nature and her powerful singing voice; after graduating from China's National Sichuan Conservatory of Music, she served as a full-time lecturer at the same university. Since coming to Japan in 1994, as Japan's only Tibetan singer, she has been actively engaged in activities sharing the music and culture of her homeland. In her lecture, infused with humor, she speaks on themes such as cultural differences between Japan and Tibet and the nature of family, bringing emotion and empathy to many people. Furthermore, with the wish to "provide education for children in her homeland," Baima Yangjin has dedicated herself to school construction activities in Tibet, opening numerous schools. She also continues educational support, such as promoting exchanges between children in Japan and Tibet and establishing scholarships for local university students. This lecture will provide an opportunity to reflect anew on the significance of the Ishigaki Citizens' Charter, deepen cross-cultural understanding, and foster connections with the local community. Along with the lecture, her singing voice that brings the Tibetan grasslands to mind is scheduled to be showcased.
