70th Nakijin Haarii Tournament

About this event

The traditional sea festival "70th Nakijin Haarii Tournament" will be held in Nakijin Village, Okinawa Prefecture. Marking its memorable 70th edition, visitors can enjoy dynamic dragon boat (haarii) races and a lively atmosphere at the venue. Held inside Unten Port, various categories are conducted, including general races, sub-district (aza) competition races, women's races, junior high school races, and elementary school races. Team recruitment is conducted for teams of up to 15 members (including helmsman and assistants), with an entry fee of 10,000 yen per race (free for elementary and junior high school races, though competition insurance is collected separately). A practice period is also scheduled from Monday, September 7 to Friday, September 11, from 17:00 to 20:00 (reservation required). On the event day, reception starts at 8:30, opening ceremonies start at 9:00, and the post-festival party starts at 15:20.
